For 30 years, I worked on big construction projects: managing crews, keeping things on track, and making sure everything was built right. I’m proud of that time, but what I realized was missing was the part I love most: working directly with people, listening to their ideas, and helping them turn a dream into something real.
That’s why I started Call Uncle Mike. I wanted to get closer to the work and closer to the people I build for. Sometimes that means helping you figure out how to make an idea possible — like turning part of your sunroom into a walk-in closet or designing a garden on a slope. Other times it’s creating something playful, like a custom-built playhouse. And yes, it’s also fixing the door that never shuts right or replacing the toilet you’ve been putting off.
What drives me is knowing that when I leave, I’ve made your home better and your life a little easier. I love that moment when a client sees their vision come to life; whether it’s a remodeled space, a handcrafted project, or simply a repair that makes their home work the way it should.
Big or small, inside or out, I put the same care into every project. Because for me, this isn’t just construction. It’s about helping people feel more at home in the place that matters most.
And that’s really why it’s called Uncle Mike. I want to be that trusted family member you can always turn to. The person you call when you need something built, fixed, or figured out. Reliable, honest, and always here to help - just like family should be.
My client had been dreaming of a vegetable garden since childhood, and this year she finally made that dream come true. The yard wasn’t simple — it sat on a slope — but we used that challenge as part of the design. I built raised planter boxes tiered into the hillside, with steps and walkways in between so every corner could be reached and enjoyed.
We also added fencing to keep out deer and critters, while still blending naturally into the yard. The result is both protective and beautiful, framing the garden in a way that feels inviting.
What began as a childhood wish is now a thriving garden that’s practical, productive, and meaningful. It gives her space to grow food, but it also gives her kids a place to dig in, watch things grow, and learn where food really comes from — creating something the whole family can share.
When my clients were looking for a home, the only requirement was space for a treehouse. They wanted one for their three boys, but the house they chose didn’t have the right spot for a traditional build. I didn’t want them to lose that dream, so we created a playhouse nestled into their magnolia tree.
The branches wrapped around the roof and walls, making it feel like part of the tree itself - private, shaded, and protected. I knew it was important for the whole family to be part of the process, so I made sure to find ways for them to pitch in. That way, they weren’t just getting a playhouse — they were building it together and making memories along the way. While we worked, we even watched a bird family raise their chicks in the same branches, something the boys will never forget. In the end, it became more than a playhouse: it was a promise kept and a place filled with family memories.
My clients are a busy family of five living in a beautiful 100-year-old home, but some areas just weren’t functional for everyday life. With no good place to store shoes, backpacks, mittens, or jackets, the entry always felt cluttered and overwhelming. At first we looked into custom closet systems, but none of them really solved the problem. That’s when we realized there was a better idea: add a wall and create a true walk-in closet.
The bags, coats, and piles of shoes that once filled the room are now tucked neatly away, making the home look and feel completely different. The new closet doesn’t shrink the room or make it feel closed in — it’s still open, bright, and inviting. Instead of clutter being the first thing they see when they walk in, the family now has a calm, organized space that works for the way they actually live.
It was a simple idea that completely changed the flow of the house — proof that the most creative solutions are often the most practical.
The treehouse we built on the hill quickly became the kids’ favorite spot, but the family realized the space around it had even more potential. The sloped yard made it tricky to use, so we designed a patio that leveled the ground and created a place where everyone could gather. To make it truly inviting year-round, we added a built-in fireplace — a centerpiece for family time and a spot where the parents can relax while the kids play nearby.
Now, what was once just a patch of uneven ground has become an outdoor living area that connects the treehouse to the rest of the yard. It’s functional, comfortable, and built to last — a place for the family to enjoy together for years to come.
This family’s upstairs bathroom hadn’t been updated in decades, and it showed. The layout was cramped, storage was almost nonexistent, and the old fixtures made it feel dark and dated. They wanted a space that was both practical for busy mornings and relaxing at the end of the day.
We reconfigured the layout to make better use of the footprint, added a double vanity for more counter space, and built in smart storage so everything had a place. New tile, brighter lighting, and modern fixtures completely transformed the room.
Now, instead of a bathroom that felt like a daily frustration, they have a space that feels open, clean, and inviting — a room that finally matches the comfort of the rest of their home.
The original fireplace in this living room was outdated and more decorative than functional, so the family rarely used it. They wanted something safer, more efficient, and cozy enough to make the space a true gathering spot.
We removed the old unit and installed a new fireplace insert with clean lines and a modern surround, designed to complement the character of the home. The upgrade not only improved safety and efficiency but also turned the fireplace into a real focal point.
Now, instead of a feature they avoided, the family has a warm, inviting centerpiece for their living room — perfect for quiet evenings, holiday gatherings, or just adding comfort to everyday life.
"I’ve wanted a veggie garden forever, but our yard is on a slope and I dreaded the idea of putting up some big ugly fence just to keep the deer out. I found a picture online of something I liked and showed it to Mike — and he just made it happen. He came up with planter boxes, steps, and walkways that actually make the slope work for us. The fencing blends right in, so it looks beautiful but still keeps the critters out. What I loved most was how easy and fun he made the whole process — the idea kept growing as we went, and he rolled with every change. Now I’ve got the garden I dreamed of, and my kids get to learn where food comes from while we enjoy it together."
"When we bought our house, I promised my boys we’d build a treehouse. The yard didn’t have the right trees, so I thought that dream was gone. When I mentioned it to Mike, he said, ‘Let’s make this happen. I’ve got an idea.’ And boy, did he deliver. He built a playhouse right into our magnolia tree and had the kids help so they’ll always remember being part of it.
We don’t have family in town, but Mike is like the uncle we wish we had — the kids even call him Mr. Mikey. Now they’ve got a place they love, I got to keep a promise I wasn’t sure I could, and we couldn’t be more grateful. I’d recommend Mike to anyone."
"Mike was working a project over at my neighbor’s house, and he’d always take the time to wave and chat when I was outside. One day I mentioned how my screen door had never closed properly, but it felt too small of a job to bother him with. A week later, I got a text from my neighbor asking if it was okay for Mike to take a look while I was out of town. When I came home from vacation, the door was fixed - just like that. He brushed it off with a ‘no big deal,’ but for me it was huge. It had driven me crazy for years, and he just took care of it without a fuss. That’s who Mike is - he notices, he cares, and he makes life easier in ways that really matter.”
"I had been struggling for years trying to figure out how to get more storage in our old house. We looked at all kinds of closet systems and nothing ever felt right. When I explained the problem to Mike, he just looked at the space and said, ‘Why don’t we just add a wall and make a walk-in closet?’ It was so simple but something I never thought of. Now all the backpacks, jackets, and shoes have a home, and the room actually feels bigger and more inviting without all the clutter. The only thing I regret is not calling him sooner."
"Working with Mike on our bathroom remodel was such a good experience. He’s honest about what will work and what won’t, which made me feel confident we were making the right choices. He really listened to what we wanted, respected our budget, and found creative ways to make the space beautiful and practical. The whole process felt easy, and the result is a bathroom we love every single day."
"When I started building my own house, I quickly realized how much work it really was. Mike stepped in and helped me every step of the way — especially putting up drywall throughout the house. He made a huge job feel manageable, and his experience saved me countless headaches. Having him involved gave me the confidence that things were being done right. I can honestly say I couldn’t have gotten this far without him."
